Hope Floats 04:34
Hope Floats | Dave McKinley Hope floats So please don’t sink my boat Wine flows To where does the conversation go Something lift me up and give my bones a shake Don’t hesitate to replicate the gracious twist of fate You’d better hold me down, I’m bleeding out, my mouth is dry Win or lose the life I choose is mine to turn around And face the sun Turn my walk in to a run F-a-c-e face the sun Turn my walk into a run Hope has a ghost In a land of despair just off the coast It shines a beam of light To guide the way so the rocks and the boats don’t fight To the disingenuous the fake and the phony ones To the almost rans that also fanned the flames that licked the sun You’d better cool your beans, shape your dreams, you selfish bums The bell will ring for you and there’ll be nothing you can do about it But face the sun, Turn my walk in to a run, F-a-c-e face the sun Turn my walk into a run Something lift me up and give my bones a shake Don’t hesitate to replicate the gracious twist of fate You’d better hold me down, I’m bleeding out, my mouth is dry Win or lose the life I chose is mine to turn around And face the sun Turn my walk in to a run F-a-c-e face the sun Turn my walk into a run

In The Stars 02:57
In The Stars | Dave McKinley I can see the writing on the wall But I love graffiti so it doesn’t bother me at all Read between the lines Don’t let your felt tip pen slip outside of them The colour of my heart was never written in the stars or on the wall Time for me to rectify my mistakes Regrets are not necessarily bad things for you to make Never make an enemy, enemies will always make themselves The colour of their hearts was never written in the stars or on the wall Hold me close don’t ever let me go Been counting down the hours and now there’s seconds left to go I can’t feel your breath upon my cheek I’m losing all your body heat The colour of your heart was never written in the stars or on the wall The colour of your heart was never written in the stars or on the wall

Get A Life 03:44
Get A Life | Dave McKinley Get a life, get a life, I don’t really care if you live or die Don’t wanna know what you came here for Kindly go and show yourself the door All your dreams are made from the comfort of the shade that you were born in The rest you have been brave and they’re never gonna get it and they’re never gonna take it away Alright! I don’t really care if I am right or I’m wrong, I’m going to write a song about a man who had to write a song And I want you all to sing along and maybe you could all shake your thing Get a life, get a life I don’t really care if you live or die Don’t wanna know what you came here for Kindly go and show yourself the door All your dreams are made from the comfort of the shade that you were born in to The rest you have been brave and they’re never gonna get it and they’re never gonna take it away Alright! Holding back my tears I’ve been holding my tongue I never promised to be righteous man I never promised to be strong I never meant to fall this far and I don’t know if I can hold on I got a beard like a captain but I got no legs for the sea I don’t like that water man and that water don’t like me You’ve gone and thrown me over board and watch me sink like a stone All I wanted was some little blue pills out of the machine But all it gave me was breath freshener s-p-e-a-r-m-i-n-t! Get a life, get a life I don’t really care if you live or die Don’t wanna know what you came here for Kindly go and show yourself the door Get a life, get a life I don’t really care if you live or die

The Down Low 04:40
The Down Low | Dave McKinley These are the things that will break your back And hold your head under the sea When somebody goes and they don’t come back It’s easy to sink to your knees There’ll be a light you can carry the fight to They’ll be some joy along the way Even when life’s full of storms Remember the glory When something small overcomes the grey I can’t break my fall I got no wings at all Falling is all that I have Try as I might I just can’t learn to fly The pavements always coming at me fast There’s nothing there but the cool breeze of air The smell of a Cuban cigar Drinking on a boat chewing the fat With old compadres Composing sonnets for decomposing ghosts All that I long for all that I love Is hidden underneath the golden leaves In the autumn of my mind Where peace seems so damn hard to find The winds getting, winter is setting in Sugar coated poison will quieten down the voices Through my window love and life will shine My conscience flows like water just like the bastard ought to With harmony and clarity in mind These are the things that will bring you back And hold your head above the sea You went away now you’ve come back I hope that you remember me There’s still a light we can carry the fight to They’ll be some joy along the way Even when life’s full of storms Remember the glory When something small overcomes the grey

about

A few words from Jon...
"It was an immensely satisfying journey to traverse with Dave while recording this EP. A glass or two (ahem) of wine and beer was consumed and the world was put to rights on most sessions as
an essential aperitif. We recorded ten or so rough demos and it quickly became apparent which ones were to form the first, of many I hope, EPs. The songs had a lovely organic evolution and almost mixed themselves when it come to finalising them. It’s always a pleasure to sing and play with Dave and his songs always bring out the best in my playing, particularly melodically! I still thank Dave to this day for inspiring me to create one of my favourite solos I’ve ever committed to
a recording on the title track. It’s hard to to choose a favourite track because they’re all belters but it would likely be In The Stars... We managed to capture a particular warmth on that track that’s like being engulfed in a deep, lush sofa and I’ll never forget the whoops of delight, accompanied by a chink of glasses when we found that horn sound for the middle eight! I can’t wait for the opportunity to create many more of these moments as soon as they can happen."
